Keep Your Hair Healthy This Winter

Everyone loves healthy and luscious hair! The cold winter months will take their toll on your hair if you are not taking the right precautions. Try these remedies to keep your hair looking fabulous all winter:

    1. Keep Your Hair Protected

The harsh elements of the winter weather can cause harm to your hair. Between the wind and cold temperatures, it is important to keep your hair protected. Wrap a scarf around your head or put on a hat if you will be spending time outside.

    2. Stay Hydrated

Sixty percent of the adult human body is water! That is more than half of your body. Staying hydrated from the inside out will improve both your skin and your hair! Hydrate yourself with ample amounts of water during the dry winter months and your hair will thank you!

    3. Add Some Oil

Try adding some oil to your scalp to moisturize your hair and scalp. Massaging your scalp with oil has also been proven to stimulate hair growth. Allow the oil to sit in your hair and wash out when needed.

    4. Avoid Hot Water

We understand the temptation to take a hot shower during the chilly winter months, but try and avoid doing this. Hot water will dry out your hair! Showering in warm or cool water will keep your hair healthy.

    5. Treat Your Hair

Add that hydration back to your hair! Try applying a hair mask a couple times a week and you will notice the difference. Hair masks will help to reduce frizz and dryness. Try Beauty Aura’s Restorative Argan Oil Hair Mask to restore the luster and shine to your hair!

    6. Don’t Freeze!

If you go outside in cold temperatures with wet hair, you risk the chances of your hair freezing. This will cause breakage and damage to your hair. Give your hair some time to dry inside, or blow-dry your hair before leaving your house.

    7. Keep It Simple

Styling your hair can have negative effects. Blow drying, straightening and curling your hair can have damaging effects. These tools will often dry out your hair and cause heat damage.

The holidays are almost over, and you may very well be suffering from a post-party burnout. It can oftentimes be hard to bounce back from weeks of stress, late nights, and binging on festive food and drinks. As a result of all this fun, your body can really suffer! Hair breaks, skin gets dull, breakouts pop up, and January begins in a fog of tiredness and irritability, or worse— sickness! Treat yourself right and rest up for 2017; you can still celebrate the ball drop, but we have some tips for some dreamy post-party treatments! So hydrate with some calming tea or lemon-infused water, dim the lights, and get ready to relax.

Stress, heat styling, and products can do some hefty damage to your hair, so now is the time to revive it! Grab our Argan Oil Hair Mask to repair and restore hair with keratin and vitamin E. The mask fills in weak spots on the strands to reduce any further breakage, and leaves hair silky and strong.

While you’re applying the mask, draw a bath for yourself and slip in some of our pure lavender essential oil. Or, hop in the shower to wash the mask out and indulge in one of our handmade soaps!

When you’re done in the bath or shower, it’s important to moisturize right away. After drying off, generously apply our luxurious organic cocoa butter. Your dry skin will thank you, and if you really want to really deep-condition, grab some socks and gloves and put them on after applying some foot and hand cream.

Another area of your skin that you’ll want to treat is your face. If a breakout has occurred from too much makeup or excitement, dab a very small amount of tea tree oil onto each blemish to calm them down and reduce redness. Then, apply some sweet almond oil underneath your eyes to help banish any dark circles (do this every night for two weeks for a noticeable difference).

Add some Beauty Aura Good Night essential oil blend into your diffuser, before heading to bed. If you want to go all-out, grab a sleep mask for your eyes, and be sure to use satin sheets to protect your skin and hair from wrinkles and damage! The final step, of course: SLEEP!

For all of your post-holiday decompression needs, shop our wide selection!

For those of you getting into the use of essential oils, massage oils are a great way to get started. A good massage not only benefits your stress levels, but the use of a good carrier oil conditions your skin, and the essential oils can make each massage a different experience depending on what you are looking for.

    Massage Oil Recipes

Select your favorite carrier oil, preferably one without a strong scent that will alter or overwhelm your essential oils. All of these recipes are based in ¼ cup of carrier oil, and are made to be used right away – the fresher the better - so try out a homemade massage oil recipe!

    • Stressbuster: 5 drops orange essential oil + 5 drops frankincense essential oil + 3 drops lavender essential oil + 1 drop each of vetiver and Ylang Ylang.
    • Cold Killer: 5 drops each of eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, and tea tree essential oils.
    • Aches and Pains: 7 drops lavender essential oil + 4 drops helichrysum essential oil + 1 drop each of sandalwood, ginger, and German chamomile essential oils. Skip the chamomile if you are allergic to ragweed.
    • Chill Chaser: 10 drops orange essential oil + 4 drops each of cardamom, cinnamon, and clove.
    • Sleepy Time: 10 drops lavender essential oil + 5 drops valerian essential oil + 3 drops each of mandarin and sandalwood essential oils and rose absolute.
    • PMS: 4 drops each rosemary, bergamot, rose, and clary sage essential oils.
    • Skin Tamer: 10 drops lavender essential oil + 3 drops each of geranium, lemon, and tea tree essential oils.

    Some Cautions

Since aromatherapy became so popular there are a number of oils out there that are not essential oils. “Fragrance oils” or “perfume oils” are made from synthetic ingredients like petrochemicals or coal tar and have none of the therapeutic elements in essential oils. Keep in mind that you should use caution with essential oils. Make sure that you purchase your ingredients from a reputable dealer. Just because they are natural does not mean that you can’t be allergic to some of them, so always do a test before you use the oil. People taking prescription drugs such as anticoagulants and steroids should talk with their doctor, while pregnant and nursing women should avoid certain oils. With some common sense, and some homework, you’ll soon be making your own massage oils and body care products with ease.

    "Specially formulated" for mature skin:

Women of all ages can struggle with dry skin, wrinkles, acne, and oily skin.

    Hypoallergenic:

This simply implies that the product is less likely to cause reactions, though there are no established ingredient regulations or testing methods to prove whether or not a product is 100% hypoallergenic.

    "Dermatologist-approved":

This could mean something it was tested and recommended by a dermatologist, or it could mean the company itself has a dermatologist on its team, but there are no standards required for this title.

    "Non-comedogenic" or "Non-Acnegenic":

Anything on your skin can clog your pores, but depending on your skin type, thinner or water-based products may not cause this to happen as much.

Exfoliate as hard as you can every day with scrubs and brushes to get rid of clogged pores:

Exfoliating too roughly has actually shown to damage skin! You SHOULD be sloughing off dead skin cells, but only at a rate that correlates with your skin type or what you put directly on your skin. Over-exfoliating, especially with brushes that are a currently popular cosmetic product, can cause "micro-tears" in the surface of your skin.

Essentially, the branding of highly-priced and designer skin companies often misuses descriptor words in order to promote a product that looks 100% effective. Overall, it's best to stick with products that are as natural as possible!

Argan Oil is loaded with fatty acids that help your skin create healthy membranes, reduce inflammation and promote healthy collagen. This oil also has high levels of vitamin E and antioxidants that help treat fine lines and cracked skin.

Avocado Oil, like argan oil, is high in omega fatty acids and vitamin E. This type of oil helps to decrease inflammation and help cell function. For those who have dry, itchy skin - this is the oil for you!

Coconut Oil is perfect for sensitive skin, or those that suffer from eczema. This oil is so moisturizing and leaves you with beautiful glowing skin. Added Bonus: This oil is also super beneficial for your hair due to the fatty acids. However, only put the oil on the ends of your hair.

Jojoba Oil is mainly used for dry skin and has the consistency of wax. However, because the oil resembles our skin's natural oils, it absorbs nicely and allows vitamin b and e to penetrate the skin.

Lavender Oil is great to use on acne prone skin. It's not only soothing for your mind, it soothes any irritation, and is a natural antiseptic and disinfectant!

All oils are 100% pure, never diluted and we travel the entire globe to find only the best ingredients for each product that gets a Beauty Aura label. Why settle for less?

    3. Reduce Stress

Essential oils have been known to penetrate cell membranes and cross the brain-blood barrier in seconds reaching the emotional center of the brain. This area of the brain is responsible for sending out chemical messengers that effect our energy, mood, or state of stress!

    4. Health Sleep

Many essential oils are predominately made up of alcohols and esters that have several therapeutic properties, and are most commonly associated with relaxation. In fact, most essential oils that have sedative or relaxing qualities may be used to help bring some relief to restless sleep!
